Why We Keep Coming Back to Hyatt Regency Hill Country With Our Kids

Thank you Hyatt Regency Hill Country for hosting us!

The first time we visited Hyatt Regency Hill Country, Remi was still in my tummy. That was back in 2020, and we’ve been coming back ever since. Now, she and her brother get to ride bikes around the property, feed the birds in the morning and spend their days in the water. This place holds so many special memories for our family, and seeing the kids enjoy it as they grow has given us even more reasons to return.

With the renovated rooms and brand-new Big Spring Lagoon, there is plenty to be excited about if you’re planning your first visit, too. But one of the things I’ve always loved most about this San Antonio resort is how much family fun is already built into your stay.

You can arrive, unpack and have plenty to do without planning a separate outing for every day. As the mom who usually figures out what everyone is doing on vacation, I cannot overstate how nice that is.

A family resort with the fun already planned

At check-in, you’re given a calendar of complimentary activities happening during your stay. On our visit, that included s’mores on the lawn, movie nights with blankets provided and feeding the birds in the morning, which is my kids’ absolute favorite.

These are activities you can simply show up for. You don’t have to fill every hour ahead of time or research a whole list of things to keep the kids entertained. Look over the calendar when you arrive, find what your family wants to do and leave room for swimming and exploring in between.

The bird feeding is one of those little things that deserves a mention right alongside the bigger amenities. There’s a brand-new lagoon here, and my kids are still very excited about getting to feed the birds. That tells you a little about traveling with young children.

They also love the complimentary kids’ bikes. You can pick them up and head out to ride the trails around the property. Between the bikes, the morning activities and the evening fun, there are reasons to spend time outside the pool, too. Check the calendar for your dates, since the activities can change.

The new lagoon is worth getting excited about

Big Spring Lagoon brings white sand and blue water to the Hill Country, and it is such a cool addition to the resort. The 2.2-acre lagoon gives you a beach day right here in San Antonio.

What stood out to me most was the layout. It has a zero-entry shoreline and a long shape with so much room to move around. During our visit, it didn’t feel like everyone was crowded into one swimming area. There was space to spread out, which made it especially nice for a family water day.

You can also rent paddleboards and kayaks. Having those options right at the resort adds another way to enjoy the lagoon, especially if you’re visiting with a group whose kids are different ages. You can check rental pricing and requirements on-site before deciding what your family wants to try.

I could easily picture coming back with our extended family or several families of friends. Between the beach, the water and the rental activities, there’s room for everyone to enjoy the afternoon a little differently while still spending the day together.

We still make time for the lazy river

Even with the new lagoon, the lazy river is still one of my favorite parts of Hyatt Hill Country.

It’s shaded and designed to feel like an actual river, with trees around you as you float. That setting is a big part of what makes this resort feel so removed from everyday life. You’re in San Antonio, but once you’re floating beneath the trees, it’s easy to settle into being away.

The lagoon and lazy river give you two very different ways to spend time in the water. I would leave enough room in your stay for both. There’s no need to rush through one to get to the other when enjoying the property is the whole reason you came.

Our stay in the Hill Country Suite

On this visit, we stayed in a Hill Country Suite. The renovated suite has a private king bedroom and a separate living area with a full-size sleeper sofa and dining table, giving families more space than a standard guest room.

When you’re comparing room options, pay attention to the layout as well as the beds. Having a separate living area is worth considering when you’re spending several days at a resort with your kids. Hyatt also offers connecting rooms if you’re planning a trip with a larger family.

For us, returning to a familiar resort and getting to experience what’s new made this visit especially fun. We already had years of memories here, and now there’s a whole new part of the property to enjoy together.

A place to bring the whole family

Hyatt Hill Country is one of my favorite family spots, and it’s somewhere I would recommend looking at for a trip with grandparents, cousins or a few families traveling together.

The activity calendar gives you easy opportunities to meet up throughout the day. Everyone can choose how to spend their time, then come together for a movie on the lawn or s’mores that evening. With so much happening on the property, one person doesn’t have to organize every activity for the entire group.

It’s also a Texas road trip that feels like a much bigger escape. Between the shaded river, the trails and now a sandy beach, it doesn’t feel like you’re just a drive from home.

When I think about why we keep coming back, I think about that first visit while I was pregnant with Remi, and how different our trips look now. Today, there are two kids picking out bikes and getting excited about feeding the birds. The resort has changed since 2020, and our family has, too. Getting to return to a place that has been part of so many stages of our life is something I treasure.

Save this for your next Texas family getaway, and follow @breshell for more places to explore with your kids.
